The first time JodiesDaddy and I went to Izakaya Kikufuji a few years back (pre-Jodie), we were not impressed at all. We didn’t know what the fuss was all about.
Fast forward to last Saturday. I was craving for Japanese food, and I wanted to try something different from our usual go-to Japanese places. And then I remembered Izakaya Kikufuji and decided, what the heck.. Let’s give it another try.
We got there before 11, and I was shocked that nearly all the tables were reserved. The last time we were there, I remember there were hardly any people. As we looked around the place, that’s when it dawned upon us that the first time we were there… It was NOT Izakaya Kikufuji after all! Hahaha
What we had:
To start, they had a complimentary cabbage salad that came with this really tender squid. We liked the squid as It was not too “fishy” and cooked just right.
JodiesDaddy and I also shared a Spicy Tuna Sashimi. Can’t go wrong with this appetizer.
For my main dish, I got the Nigiri Sushi, which was essentially assorted sushi’s. This hit the spot and satisfied my sushi craving.
Meanwhile, JodiesDaddy has his usual order of Chirashi Don. He declared this to be his favorite. It was a plus that there were strips of Unagi in his bowl. He devoured this.
Even picky-eater, Jodie loved her Tori Karaage! She nearly finished this and wiped out her rice. That definitely surprised us!
We were so happy that we gave Kikufuji a second chance, albeit it took us several years to rediscover it. We will definitely be back sooner than you can say Izakaya Kikufuji.
