Hawkers in Manila?!

Oh yes, thanks to Makansutra!  Makansutra mimics a Singaporean Hawker center featuring food vendors each offering Hawker classics such as:  Chicken Rice, Cereal Prawns, Satay, Hokkien Mee and so much more!

We ordered the following:

  • Oyster Omelette – this was more for me but  Jodie decided to share.  We both really liked this.
  • Duck Kway Teow – JodiesDaddy was actually looking for Char Kwey Teow but I couldn’t find any.  This was the closest I got.  I was not too fond of this rendition and it was spicier than I expected.  It didn’t seem too Char Kwey Teow-y to me.
  • Clay pot Rice – this is ultimate favorite whenever we go to SG.  This version, we’re happy to say, came quite close!  The only “issue” I had was that the rice was a bit too dry.  But apart from that, we loved it!  FYI .. There was a long waiting time for this dish — 50minutes!
  • Fried Chicken with Prawn Paste and Yang Chow Fried Rice – I didn’t have any excellent picture of the chicken, so I didn’t post it.  I liked the chicken because it wasn’t any ordinary fried chicken.  It had a bagoong kick!  I was surprised that Jodie loved it.  The Fried Rice was a last minute addition.  Nothing really special.  And had I known that the Clay Pot was going to HUGE, I would not have ordered this anymore.

While there were some misses in Makansutra, we still would recommend it.  Some of the dishes were at par to the original ones, service was great too and the ambiance just made you feel like you were dining in an actual Singaporean Hawker center (except maybe for the the modern furniture haha).

Have you been here?  What was your favorite?

Hi! I’ve been meaning to visit. How is the price in general? Thanks!

Hi there! Price is reasonable 🙂 average Php200-300/meal or viand. Some less than that. When I went there though, they didn’t accept credit card yet. 🙂
