This Family Eats at Caruso Ristorante Italiano

My mom’s 5th sibling (they are a family of 11 siblings!) Tita Sylvia, visited from the US a few weeks ago.  Her schedule was packed with activities including an advance 60th birthday lunch at Caruso Ristorante Italiano — a restaurant I haven’t been to in almost a decade (must have been more than a decade because Jodie was not even born yet nor was I married yet). I remember loving the food in Caruso, and being able to taste it again, did not disappoint.

A few of the dishes we had were:

  • Deep Fried Calamari and Shrimp,

I loved that the batter on this was not too thick yet it was still crispy. It was also not overcooked so the seafood was not rubbery. Adding that lemon also enhanced the taste of the seafood! YUM!
  • Marghareta Pizza,

    17.02.26 - Caruso - 2
I was a bit disappointed by the basil on this pizza.. I mean hello? It didn’t even look like basil! haha
  • Caruso Pizza (my favorite),

    17.02.26 - Caruso - 3
Stark contrast to the Margherita — I LOVED the Caruso. Parma ham + anchovies make the best combination ever!  If there was a reason I would be back at Caruso, it would be for this Caruso!
  • Tuna seared in butter,

    17.02.26 - Caruso - 4
I must say that this tuna was cooked really well. It was not dry at all.
  • Tiramisu

    17.02.26 - Caruso - 5
I forgot all about my “less-sugar” diet with this Tiramisu. I didn’t feel cheated by it at all.

There were about 3 more other dishes which were all equally delicious (a salad, a chicken dish and another pizza).  Caruso Ristorante Italiano is on the pricey side but I feel you get your money’s worth in terms of ambiance and I guess Italian authenticity since it does not have a commercial feel to it.  It definitely is ranked as one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Metro Manila.
